This is a question business owners might ask themselves after they decide to move their advertising into the digital space. Many times business owners think it doesn’t work for them, or their industry, if there are not immediate results. It’s impossible to tell you exactly what’s wrong without performing a full audit of your account. However, there are routine things that need to be done to maintain account health.

  1. Link Google Adwords With Google Analytics

Have you linked your Google Analytics account to Your Google Adwords account? This simple step is critical for gaining insights into your advertising performance. Linking these accounts allows you to see the exact keywords that are bringing you the most engaged users. More engaged website visitors have a higher probability of becoming customers.

  1. Regularly Login

I know this sounds too simple, but you need to login regularly and monitor your account. What is happening in your campaigns? Are certain keywords spending more than others? What ads click-through better than others?

Routine login goes a long way in terms of awareness and understanding of your market. Understanding your market will help guide your future Adwords strategy.

  1. Optimize Monthly

How often do you log in and optimize your ad copy, CTR, keywords, and bids? If this only happens once every few months you are leaving money on the table. Google Adwords is not advertising that you can put on ‘auto-pilot’. Consistent optimization helps improve Quality Score and lower overall costs. Over time infrequent or poor optimization can equate to hundreds, if not thousands of wasted advertising dollars.

  1. Add Negative Keywords

You should be adding negative keywords on a weekly basis. Daily is preferred, but weekly is minimum. Adding negative keywords is similar to plugging holes. You need to regularly plug any bad, irrelevant keywords from draining your budget. This way you can focus your budget on relevant, profitable keywords.

  1. Get A Professional Audit
