5 Google Adwords Tips For Small Businesses

Posted by Garrett Carter

Small and local businesses require careful planning when choosing an Adwords Strategy. There are many unique qualities of local businesses and each needs to be taken into consideration. Here are 5 Google Adwords tips for small businesses using Google Adwords:

  1. Choose your budget based on your business

Don’t let data and keyword research cause you to raise your budget to where it makes you feel uncomfortable. Determine your budget based on your business’s monthly income and the cost of advertising. After you see results, you can quickly raise your budget to scale.

  1. Determining Your Target Area

This can be answered with one question. In what location does 50-75% of your business come from? Many times business owners say, “I get customers all the way out in [blank].” It’s always great to get customers from all over your city/region/country. However, what is the best, most efficient use of your advertising budget? Ideally, you should focus on where the majority of your customers come from. Similar to #1, you can quickly increase your target area after you see results.

  1. Use Ad Extensions

Use as many ad extensions as you can. They will help to increase your CTR and improve your ad prominence on search result pages. Also, ad extensions allow customers to call you, send you a text message, see reviews, and many more valuable features.

  1. Send People to Relevant Pages

The home page can be a great place to send users for some keywords. However, to fully leverage Quality Score, you should also have specific pages on your website that are relevant to your other keywords used. You should have content on these pages relevant to the keywords used in the ad group, and a call-to-action to influence users.

Let’s use “ac repair” as an example keyword theme. You should have a webpage with content crafted toward ac repair and a call-to-action, such as a contact form and/or click-to-call button.

  1. Any Budget Can Be Successful in Google Adwords

A small or large budget can be successful in Adwords. With proper management, a $500/month budget can perform dollar-for-dollar as well as a $5,000/month budget.
